The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Monument Inn located at 1600 North Ave. GJFD Engine 2 was the first unit on scene (within 5 minutes of being dispatched) reports smoke and fire coming from a first floor unit. GJFD Engine 2 crew pulled their attack lines and proceeded to fight the fire and search for any possible victims. GJFD Engine 2 crew quickly extinguished the fire containing the fire to the unit and preventing the spread of fire to any other unit. The crew’s primary internal search for victims was clear. One civilian was later evaluated on scene for possible smoke inhalation and minor burns and the circumstances surrounding the civilian’s injuries is under investigation. Paramedics on scene did advise the civilian that an evaluation at a local hospital is recommended and the civilian refused care. Grand Junction Fire Investigators are currently on scene handling the investigation. No other civilians were injured in this incident and no other structures were involved. There were no firefighters injured on this incident. All fire investigation questions will be handled by the Grand Junction Fire Marshal’s Office @ 970-549-5800.
