The Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to a Fed Ex semi trailer fire early Friday morning. Initial dispatch reports stated that the semi was full of urinal cakes and it was on fire.
Truck 3 arrived on scene and secured a water supply with assistance from Engine 5. Both fire crews pulled attack hose lines from their apparatus and extinguished the fire within minutes of their
arrival. The fire destroyed one trailer and heavily damaged two trailers on either side of the involved trailer.  Estimated damage from the blaze is $60,000.00 to the Fed Ex trailers and damage to freight is unknown at this time. Fed Ex employees relayed vital information to firefighters which assisted in the rapid extinguishment of the fire. The Fed Ex location stated above is equipped with a retention pond that was able to catch all of the water run-off from this fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and all fire investigation questions can be directed to the Grand Junction Fire Marshal’s Office @ 549-5800.
