The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 500 Swan Lane earlier this afternoon. Initial dispatch reports confirmed that the residents of the house had been accounted for and the fire appeared to be coming from the attic space over the garage. The first unit on scene (Engine 5) reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage and the eves over the garage. Fire crews battled the fire using a technique called a “transitional” attack due to the intensity and location of the fire. This style of fire attack allows crews to knock the fire down from the outside, deflate the fire’s intensity, and transition to an interior attack to extinguish the blaze.

Engine 5’s CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) smothered the fire and held it from spreading to the entire house. High winds threatened to push the fire towards two nearby houses but fire crews were able to provide structure protection to those houses. No other structures were damaged during this fire.

There were no injuries to the public or emergency personnel during this incident.

The American Red Cross was requested to respond for this incident.

The fire is currently under investigation and all fire investigation questions can be directed to the Grand Junction Fire Marshal’s Office @ 970-549-5800.
