The Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire around 6 am this morning. The first GJFD unit on scene (Engine 2) deployed fire attack hose lines filled with CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) and proceeded to extinguish the flames. The laundry room and the underside of the trailer was the primary focus of the fire. Fire crews were able to knock the fire down very quickly eliminating the spread and ultimate damage of the fire. Fire crews were able to ventilate the structure immediately after extinguishment decreasing the property damage to the occupant’s personal belongings.

The inside of the trailer sustained minimal damage but the underside of the trailer did sustain significant damage and fire investigators are on scene to determine if the structure is safe to occupy. Fire investigators will also work to determine an exact cause.

Safety Note: The resident of the structure was able to initially hold the fire a bay using a residential fire extinguisher. Residential fire extinguishers can be purchased at most hardware stores and should be kept in the kitchen or garage. The most important thing to remember about residential fire extinguishers (other than making sure they are serviceable) is knowing where they are.

There were no injuries on this incident. The American Red Cross was dispatched to assist. All questions regarding this incident will be directed to the Grand Junction Fire Marshall’s Office @ 970-549-5800.
