On Scene: 10:36 hrs
Units from the Grand Junction Fire Department were dispatched to the Colorado National Monument, Devils Kitchen Area for a rescue around 10:09 hrs on 05/4/2016. The first arriving unit had an approximately 3 mile hike into the patient. GJFD Units included; Battalion-1, Rescue-1, Ambulance-3, Engine-5, & PIO-1. Other units that responded to the scene included; MCSO, Mesa County Search and Rescue, and the Park Ranger. All departments worked together to stabilize the patient and extract them out of the area they were found, which required a high level of training in rope rescue. Several advanced rope systems were set up to accomplish this goal.
The patient was a 16 year old female with a possible broken leg. Patient was successfully extracted from the area she was found. She was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, and was in stable condition.
