The Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire near the intersection of 25 Rd and I Rd. The dispatch report stated the fire was approximately the size of a football field. First arriving unit (Engine 5) reported smoke but no fire. Engine 5 crews made a direct attack on the fire using hand lines from their engine. Crews reported that the area burned was approximately 1/4 of an acre of medium size fuels. Truck 3 and Brush 5 crews assisted in extinguishment and mop up.
Safety Note: With increased temperature and decreased humidity during the summer months, please be careful with the disposal of hot items such as cigarettes, fireworks, etc. Disposing of these items in dry vegetation can cause brush fires. Also, Burn Season has ended so no agricultural burns are permitted at this time.
