The Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire for reports of a shed on fire at listed location. The first GJFD unit on-scene reported smoke and fire coming from the rear of the address. Crews were able to deploy hose lines to the rear of the structure for fire control. Crews were able to extinguish the fire located in the shed in the rear of the house. Prior to GJFD’s arrival the fire had spread to 2 vehicles in the rear of the house as well as the exterior of the home. Crews were able to extinguish the fire on the exterior of the house before it spread into the home or attic space. All occupants of the home were evacuated prior to GJFD units arriving on scene. The residents of the home were unable to account for a cat. GJFD crews were able to find the cat during their search efforts and rescue it from inside the home. The cat was attended to on-scene with oxygen administration. The cat improved and was then taken to the vet by the home owner. Due to the smoke damage, the Red Cross was contacted to help the displaced family.
The fire is currently under investigation to determine an exact cause.
Safety Note: Fires can spread from one structure to another easily when materials that easily burn are left between them, along with changing wind conditions and dry fuels.
There were no humans injured on this incident. All questions regarding this incident will be directed to the Grand Junction Fire Marshall’s Office @ 970-549-5800.
