Units from the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to Caprock Academy for a commercial structure fire. First in units reported smoke coming from the roof, and light smoke in the interior of the structure. #GJFD units established Caprock Command and started fire ground operations. #GJFD crews quickly got to the roof, and made an initial knockdown with a water can.
Other members of the #GJFD deployed a more significant source of water to the roof, called a condo lay. This supplied two 1 3/4″ hand lines for roof operation. #GJFD crews divided in to separate divisions. Roof operations continued to work on finding the seed of the fire, and looking for extension. Other crews search for extension in the interior of the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished. The timely portion is looking for extension and making sure the building is safe to leave. GJFD crews uncovered and extinguished all extension of the fire, and were able to leave the building safe.
Fire cause was determined to be firework related.
Safety Note: Never hesitate to call 911 if you see a neighbors home on fire.
Make sure to always check smoke detectors and replace every 10 years. Change the batteries every 6 months.
