At 16:29 the GJFD responded to a brush fire near the 400 block of Marianne Dr. The fire was fast-moving in an area of dense dry fuel. The fire was pushed by strong winds toward the nearby subdivision. The first units on scene contained the fire to the edge of a canal and prevented the fire from spreading. The fire covered approximately two acres. Multiple agencies responded including the Mesa County Wildland Fire Team and units from the BLM. The BLM units were canceled after the fire was contained. The last GJFD unit did not clear until 19:42.
