GJFD Responds to Home Fire

The Grand Junction Fire Department Responded to a structure fire this afternoon at 12:01 in the 400 block of Niagara Cr. Upon arriving on scene Engine 2 reported smoke and flames coming from the home where the resident had evacuated.

The home owner notified law enforcement and fire personnel that three dogs and two cats were possibly still inside. One person was transported to the hospital, two dogs were safely rescued, one dog perished, and two cats are unaccounted for.

Thee engine companies, one truck, two ambulances crews, a Battalion Chief, and a medical officer responded to the fire. Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly but the home experienced significant damage.

The Grand Junction Fire Department would like to remind residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors and have practiced an evacuation drill with their family in the last 6 months.
