GJFD Responds to River Rescue

Emergency-911[1]

This evening at 16:07 the Grand Junction Fire Department, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, and Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of three people floating in the river, possibly in need of rescue, in the area of the 5th Street Bridge.

Upon arriving on scene and searching the area, law enforcement was able to make contact with three teenagers on the south bank of the river matching the description of the endangered party. The teens had no life jackets, no raft, and reported that they had begun floating the river in the area of 29 Road. No one in the party was injured and all three were escorted to safety by law enforcement.

The Grand Junction Fire Department would like to remind the community that the river is currently swift and cold. If you decide to float the river always wear a life jacket, use flotation devices that are designed for the river environment, and tell someone your recreation plans.
