GJFD Responds to Fire During Red Flag Warning

At 14:52 the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a fire in the 2900 block of C 3/4 Rd. During a Red Flag Warning two camper trailers and a flatbed trailer caught on fire surrounded by heavy brush and debris. No one was harmed, but the camper trailers and flatbed were not salvageable.

Engine 1, Engine 4, Ambulance 6, Water Tender 5, a Battalion Officer, and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call. With the lack of a fire hydrant nearby, Water Tender 5 delivered water to the two engine crews who monitored the fire and worked to keep it contained to the area of origin. The cause of the fire is unknown.

The Grand Junction Fire Department would like to remind the community that during a Red Flag Warning burning is prohibited, and citizens should be careful when disposing of cigarettes, or working with sparking machinery. Heavy winds and dry conditions allow fire to spread quickly. For more information on this incident contact the Community Outreach Office at (970)549-5858 or by e-mail at GJFirePIO@gjcity.org.
