On Monday September 11th people around our nation will gather together, share moments of silence, and serve their communities in remembrance of the events of the September 11th .The Grand Junction Fire Department will be beginning two new traditions to honor the efforts of first responders on September 11th, and to recognize our local employees that go above and beyond the call of duty.
Between 08:30 and 09:00, GJFD crews along with other Mesa County First Responders will hold a silent remembrance along the I-70 corridor and other busy intersections in our community. Crews will display the American flag from overpasses along the I-70 corridor between Fruita and Debeque. By participating in this remembrance, we hope that the citizens and visitors of Mesa County will join us in honoring the bravery and sacrifice of first responders around the nation. See below for a complete list of flag display locations.
At 17:30, the GJFD will be hosting a small Recognition and Remembrance Ceremony. The GJFD hopes to continue this annual tradition of taking a moment to remember the unity of the fire service surrounding the events of September 11th, and to recognize extraordinary actions of our own employees for the year. This year, three GJFD Firefighters will be recognized at the ceremony for going above and beyond the call of duty.
