At 16:16 this evening a two vehicle crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-70 near Exit 32. The Grand Junction Police Department confirms that two people are dead. A third person was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
After the fatal crash while controlling traffic in the Westbound lanes, two GJPD vehicles were hit by a pickup truck. One of the GJPD vehicles was unoccupied at the time of the wreck. One officer was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the second officer and pickup truck driver were evaluated on scene.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-70 are currently closed surrounding the wrecks. People traveling east may use the Clifton on-ramp. People traveling west may use the 24 Rd. on-ramp. Travelers should expect delays in both directions, with extended delays on I-70 Eastbound.
