GJFD Responds to Injured Hiker

At 1611 this evening The Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to Bangs Canyon Recreation Area for a hiker that had fallen from a significant height. Other hikers were able to lead GJFD crews and the Mesa County Search and Rescue Ground Team through rugged terrain to the injured hiker. Crews were able to secure and carry the patient out of the canyon where the patient could be transported by a CareFlight helicopter. 

GJFD responded to this incident with a Battalion Chief, a Medical Officer, Heavy Rescue 1, Engine 5, and Ambulance 1. Mesa County Search and Rescue Ground Team, CareFlight, and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office also responded with critical resources and personnel.
