At 1022 The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a tractor-trailer on fire on the 560 block of Sandhill Lane. At the same time GJFD Engine 5 crew was travelling to a training when they saw the smoke and went to investigate. Within two minutes the fire crew was on scene, with heavy smoke and flames coming from a parked tractor-trailer. No one was hurt in the blaze. Early notification and proactive teamwork on the part of the crews prevented two other nearby trailers from becoming involved in the fire.
Four engines, an ambulance, and a Battalion Chief were initially dispatched to the call. By 1028 the fire was fully under control, and most of the dispatched units were able to return to service.
The estimated damage is unknown and the origin and cause of the fire are under investigation. For further information on this incident contact the Community Outreach Office at (970)549-5858 or by e-mail at GJfirePIO@gjcity.org.
