At 1450 the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a gas leak in the area of 600 Highway 50. When Engine four arrived on scene they discovered a 1.25 inch gas line had been ruptured. With the assistance of GJPD, crews evacuated the homes closest to the leak, and advised the surrounding neighbors to shelter in place until the line could be repaired. All residents in the neighborhood helped by following the directions given by first responders. No one was injured. At 1717 the gas leak was secured. Evacuation and shelter in place orders were lifted.
One engine and a Battalion Chief responded to the call to secure the scene while Xcel Energy secured the leak. GJPD also responded to help with evacuations, shelter in place notifications, and scene control.
