GJFD Responds to 416 Fire

At 0600 tomorrow, June 5th, The Grand Junction Fire Department will deploy a team of wildland firefighters to the 416 fire near Durango, CO. Engine Boss Stacy Rollins, Engineer Wes Engbarth, and Firefighters Billy Reyez and Clark Thompson could be gone for up to two weeks helping fight the blaze alongside 384 other firefighters. The Department is honored to be able to send a crew to help, and looking forward to the knowledge and skills they will bring back to Grand Junction. The crew will be taking Brush 4 which is a type III engine.

The 416 fire started on June 1st and is currently burning approximately 2,400 acres with 10% containment. The extended forecast is for above normal temperatures to continue into late week. Moisture will increase beginning Friday which will provide opportunities for afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the highest peaks.

Anyone wanting to make a donation is encouraged to give to several local organizations. Financial donations can be made by calling the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado at (970)375-5807, in the name of the Community Emergency Relief Fund. The Discover Goodwill of Durango, 1230 Escalante Drive, can accept clothes and household donations. While fire and support teams greatly appreciate community support, all food and equipment needs are met at this time.
