At 1530 the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a shed on fire on the 2900 block of G Rd. The property owner had been burning weeds when high winds pushed the fast growing fire to a nearby shed. The first unit on scene arrived at 1538 and found the shed fully engulfed. Fire suppression operations were hampered by high winds and limited access to a water supply. Crews were able to get the fire under control and prevent flames from spreading to neighboring homes. There were no injures.
Three engines, a truck, an ambulance, a medical officer, and a Battalion Chief responded to the scene. The dollar amount lost to the blaze is unknown.
High winds spread this fire very quickly. Extreme caution is advised to all residents during the current high fire risk conditions. Burning of any kind is strongly discouraged during Red Flag Warnings. For more information on this incident contact the Community Outreach Office at (970)549-5858 or by e-mail at GJfirePIO@gjcity.org.
