At 11:31 PM the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a fire behind commercial building in the 2800 block of North Ave. When the first crew arrived on scene at 11:38 PM they found a large cardboard recycling storage area on fire. No one was injured and crews were able to work quickly and stop the fire from spreading to the commercial structure. Business was able to continue as normal at the facility.
Three engines, two trucks, two ambulances, a Battalion Chief, a Medical Officer, and a GJPD officer responded to the call. Grand Junction Public Works Department was also called to the fire. The Public Works Department provided heavy machinery to spread out the compacted cardboard, allowing crews to make sure no hot spots remained in the pile.
