Fire Prevention Week October 7th – 13th 2018

Fire Prevention Week was started following the tragedy of the Great Chicago Fire that burned October 8-10, 1871. The Great Fire was supposedly started by a cow kicking over a lantern in a barn and ultimately caused 300 people to lose their lives, and left 100,000 others homeless. Since this tragedy, the fire service, and specifically fire prevention week work to make our homes, commercial buildings and cities more fire resistant to prevent these types of tragedies from repeating.

The Grand Junction Fire Department would like to invite you, the community, to celebrate fire safety with us. This year’s topics will be focused on…

“Look” for places fire could start,

“Listen” for the sound of the smoke alarms and

“Learn” two ways out of every room and make sure all doors and windows are easy to open and are free of clutter.
