GJFD Responds to Motorhome Fire

At 7:41 AM The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports fire seen in the area of 29 Rd. north of I-70. The call came in from interstate drivers who noticed a large column of smoke. Once crews arrived on scene they realized that the area with the fire was inaccessible to Truck 3. The crew on Brush 4 was able to continue through rugged terrain until they reached what turned out to be a motor home fully engulfed in flames. No one was injured in the fire, and crews were advised by law enforcement that the motor home was abandoned. Due to location in town and extremely difficult access the fire took over an hour to fully extinguish.

GJFD responded with Brush 4, Truck 3, and a Battalion Chief. Mesa County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the call. The vehicle is a total loss and the investigation has been turned over to law enforcement.
