GJFD Extinguishes Power Pole on Fire

At 10:30 AM the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a power pole near two apartment complexes showing smoke and flames in the area of 1350 15th Street. When crews arrived they found the pole on fire with a wooden fence surrounding it. Because of the electric hazard, GJFD crews were not able to put the fire out until power had been shut off in the affected lines. By the time the fire was out the fence had sustained damage, but the fire had not spread to either apartment complex.

GJFD responded with Truck 1 and Engine 2. Xcel Energy responded to disconnect the power, locate the problem, and work to restore power to the affected homes.
