GJFD Saves Historic Home Downtown

At 7:54 PM this evening the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a home fire in the 800 block of Grand Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was coming from the roof and officers from the Grand Junction Police Department were evacuating the residents of the apartments. Firefighters were able to quickly get water on the fire and extinguish the blaze. Crews were also able to conduct a search of the home and confirm that no one was inside. Two rooms of the home experienced significant damage, and the rest of the home sustained water and smoke damage.

GJFD responded with Truck 1, Truck 3, Engine 2, Engine 4, Ambulance 7, Ambulance 1, a Medical Officer, a Battalion Chief, and a Deputy Chief. Grand Junction Police Department responded and played a courageous role in evacuating the apartments, and later assisted with traffic control. Volunteer Victim Advocates from GJPD and the American Red Cross also responded to help two adults that were displaced. The fire originated in one of the apartments, but the cause is under investigation.
