GJFD Rescues Eight from River

At 6:32 PM the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of an individual on an island in the Colorado River that appeared to be in distress. It was soon determined that the individual was from a party of eight subjects experiencing trouble on the river. The group was floating the river on inner tube devices that are not suitable for the current river conditions. One individual’s inner tube developed a leak and he was only able to stay afloat thanks to a life jacket borrowed from the Save-A-Life Jacket Program kiosk. Several individuals in the group were not wearing life jackets.

GJFD responded with Brush 5, Boat 5, Truck 1, Rescue 1, Ambulance 1, Medic 1, and a Battalion Chief. The Grand Junction Police Department, and Mesa County Sheriff’s office also responded to assist. GJFD would like to thank passersby Chad Davis, and Erin Radel who assisted the parties to shore
