At 10:00 PM last night, the Grand Junciton Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at a home in the 400 block of 23rd Street. When crews arrived on scene the front porch and exterior of the home was on fire. Neighbors had helped to alert the single resident of the home and were attempting to get water on the fire. Crews were able to fully extinguish the fire and confirm that there had only been minor fire extension to the inside of the home.
GJFD responded with Ambulance 1, a Medical Officer, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, Truck 1, and Battalion Chief. Grand Junciton Police Department also responded to assist with traffic and scene control. A crew investigation found that the fire was likely caused by a discarded cigarette. The home sustained moderate exterior damage, and the resident was displaced for the night.
