At 12:09 PM The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a patient that had fallen off a cliff on Ribbon Trail off of Andy’s Loop. The patient was hiking alone and was found by bystanders who were able to assist the patient and send for help. Bystanders were able to meet Grand Junction Fire Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Officers at the trailhead and direct rescuers in. Crews were able to reach the hiker quickly and provide immediate care. Due to the patient’s injuries, and location, Mesa County Search and Rescue was called for assistance as well as St. Mary’s CareFlight. This call required comprehensive rope rescue as well as significant manpower to safely extricate the patient to St. Mary’s CareFlight Helicopter.
GJFD responded with Ambulance 4 Rescue 1, a Medical Officer, and a Battalion Chief. Mesa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with locating the patient, and manpower required to extricate. Mesa County Search and rescue provided manpower for patient extrication. St. Mary’s Careflight Helicopter responded for the final extrication of the patient out of the deep valley.
