At 11:58 AM the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a residential structure fire on the 1700 block of N 3rd Street. Initial reports indicated that heavy smoke and flames were coming from the garage at the address. The first crew on scene set up a defensive attack to prevent the fire from spreading to the closely grouped homes on the street. Crews had to maneuver around vehicles in the home’s driveway and avoid angry bees from hives on the property. At 12:23 PM the fire was under control and crews were able to venture inside the garage to fully extinguish the fire and look for any flames extending into the walls of the home. Two adults were displaced by the fire. There are no known injuries. One pet cat was confirmed dead and another is currently missing. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
GJFD responded with Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, Ambulance 3, and Battalion 1. The Grand Junction Police Department assisted with traffic control and scene safety.
