On Friday, September 11th, Central Orchard Mesa Fire Protection District, Clifton Fire Protection District, East Orchard Mesa Fire Department, Gateway-Unaweep Fire Protection District, Grand Junction Fire Department, Lands End Fire Protection District, Palisade Fire Department, and Plateau Valley Fire Protection District will be continuing a tradition of honoring the efforts of first responders on September 11th.
Between 8:30 and 9:00 AM, fire service crews across Mesa County will hold a silent remembrance along arterial roadways. Crews will display the American flag from overpasses along the I-70 corridor between Fruita and Debeque, along Highway 50 at B ½ Rd in Orchard Mesa, and along Scenic Highway 141 in Gateway. At 8:45 AM The Grand Junction Regional Communications Center will call for crews to salute for three minutes and forty-three seconds to honor the lives of the 343 firefighters that died responding to the towers.
We ask that community members join us from their home, workplace, or school, through their radio, on social media, or via scanners to observe this time of silent reflection with us. By participating in this remembrance, we hope to honor the dedication and sacrifice of all first responders around our nation. We look forward to taking time in our community to remember the unity of the fire service surrounding the events of September 11th.
See below for a complete list of flag display locations.
